These are main features of RPA:
- You may have some experience with MS Office, namely MS Excel and MS Word. Writing a macro is a way to repeat the same sequence of actions in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word. An RPA-Robot can be considered as a macro, which is running across number of applications. Of course, an RPA can also work with one application.
- RPA is a rule-based technology. If one needs to make a more sophisticated decision, AI-driven Intelligent Automation must be implemented or integrated with a robot. That is a good time to ask yourself, if it’s impossible to define clear rules and how your staff have worked before without them.
- RPA integrates applications but doesn’t replace them. That allows rapid implementation and tangible output.
- RPA works at the user-interface level and (in some cases) calls API. Fortunately, RPA doesn’t require any middleware to communicate with applications.
- Robots are primarily developed using the no-code or low-code approach. Some robots contain only predefined action blocks. If needed, the robot functionality can be enhanced by scripts.
